About us
A group of painters promoting contemporary ink art in Hong Kong had established the “Hong Kong Shui Mo Association” in June 2011. The Association has held several large- scale exhibitions of Hong Kong ink paintings under the caption: “Shui Mo Hong Kong” successively in Beijing, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Hong Kong. The purpose of this series of exhibitions is to unite Hong Kong ink painters to innovate continuously and let the local ink art establish her unique characteristics in the new era.
A group of famous painters in Beijing established the “Chinese Painting Institute” in July of the same year, to promote the development of Chinese paintings in the new century, to explore the rule of modern development and its due position in the world. Such a concept had been widely accepted amongst counterparts in the Mainland.
The “Hong Kong Shui Mo Association” and the “Chinese Painting Institute” shared the aforesaid concept coincidentally. After contact, two associations decided to cooperate with each other. With the exhibiting members of the “Shui Mo Hong Kong” exhibition as a membership base, we separately established the “Chinese Ink Painting Institute Hong Kong”. On one hand, we expanded the number of members, brought together more pioneering ink painters in Hong Kong to advance together. Simultaneously, we increased exchanges with painters in the Mainland, thus facilitating more exhibition of Hong Kong artwork which has attracted the attention of Mainland ink painters.
The “Chinese Ink Painting Institute Hong Kong” is a completely autonomous and non-governmental art organization in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We emphasize on Hong Kong, being an Asian cosmopolitan city, has her own contemporary trend of creativity style in ink art and the independent development of individual members. These two points made up the purpose of conducting art activities by the Institute.*
After the 2019 members’ exhibition, our Life President, Mr. Wucius Wong, had made the following comment---most of our members are fully committed to the path of innovation, thus enabling the establishment of Hong Kong’s unique ink mindscape, hence, making the Institute Hong Kong’s most representative and aggressive ink group.
Outlook 2021 by Chairman Ma Tat Wai
In this very special year, the whole world has been severely affected by the epidemic. Hong Kong’s culture and art exchanges are of no exception. Fortunately, we still have our Hong Kong spirit and strong creativity. We will put our feelings and hopes on surrounding matters into different kinds of ink artwork to be displayed in front of audiences and viewers. We expect, during this special period, to bring you more vibrant and innovative ink painting exhibitions.
